About Chuys
Tex-Mex & More

Discover the heart behind chuys — authentic Tex-Mex cuisine rooted in bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and a passion for bringing people together around the table in Houston, TX.

Who We Are

A Houston Tradition Since 1982

Chuys was born from a simple belief: that great food brings great people together. From a single beloved spot on Westheimer Road, we've grown into a Houston institution beloved by locals and visitors alike.

Our founders Mike Young and John Zapp opened the original Chuys in 1982, inspired by the vibrant flavors of New Mexico and the laid-back spirit of Austin. The name "chuys" was a tribute to Jesús (Chuy) Garcia — the legendary cook whose recipes remain the backbone of our menu to this day.

"Food made with love, served with heart — that's the chuy's way."

Decades later, the spirit that launched chuys is still alive in every enchilada, every fresh tortilla, and every hand-crafted margarita we serve. We believe in food that's honest, fresh, and full of character — just like the people who make it.
